Paul evidently gave this advice in reference to the necessities of the church, or what he calls (ver. 26) the present distress; for it would be perfectly absurd to imagine that an inspired apostle would in the general, discountenance marriage, since it was of the greatest importance to the existence and happiness of future generations, and expressly agreeable to a Divine institution.
