Ezekiel 44:22 "And they shall not marry a widow or a divorced woman but shall take virgins from the offspring of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest. (NASB ©1995)

Leviticus 21:7 'They shall not take a woman who is profaned by harlotry, nor shall they take a woman divorced from her husband; for he is holy to his God.

Leviticus 21:13 'He shall take a wife in her virginity.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.

Neither. This was prohibited only to the high priest under the law; but it is here extended to all the priests, perhaps to intimate the superior sanctity of the times to which it refers.
